Numeric Custom Fields Should Work Like Numbers

If you’ve been storing numbers in a text field — team size, contract value, employee count, annual revenue — you already know the frustration: sorting doesn’t work the way you’d expect, and filtering with “Contains” is about as useful for numbers as a coin flip. We built numeric custom fields to fix exactly that.

What are numeric custom fields?

Numeric custom fields are a new custom field type in Nutshell. They look and feel like a standard custom field, but they’re built specifically for numbers: inputs only accept numeric values, filters use numeric logic (Greater than, Less than, Between, and more), and values display with proper formatting.

Numeric custom fields are available for people, companies, and leads — and they’re included on all Nutshell plans.

What can I do with numeric custom fields?

Create a custom field built for numbers

When adding a new custom field, you’ll now find Numeric as a field type option. Numeric fields enforce number-only input, so your data stays clean and consistent. Values are displayed with comma formatting — no manual cleanup required.

Filter with Greater than, Less than, and Between

Numeric custom fields use real number filters. Filter your people, companies, or leads list by fields like “Annual Revenue greater than 500,000” or “Employee Count between 10 and 50” — the same filter logic you already use on Nutshell’s built-in numeric fields. You can also filter by “Has any value” or “Has no value” to spot gaps in your data.

Convert your existing text fields to numeric

Already storing numbers in a text field? You can swap it to a numeric field — and swap back to text if you ever need to — right from the custom field edit modal. Nutshell will even help you find the fields worth converting: if your account has existing text fields that look like they contain numbers, you’ll see a prompt on your list pages and a banner on the custom fields page walking you through the conversion. It’s not a destructive operation, so you can convert with confidence.

How do I get started?

Numeric custom fields are available now on all Nutshell plans. To create one, go to Settings → Organization →  Custom Fields and add a new field — select “Numeric” as the field type. If you have existing text fields that are good candidates for conversion, Nutshell will surface them automatically the next time an admin visits a list page.
